The Essentials Travel Pod Set by JJ Cole is one of those baby gear items that you can walk by in the store and think “I don’t really need that.” Yet, as soon as you’ve got it you begin to say “How did I ever live without this?” It’s all about convenience. And hygiene, but maybe that’s just me.
The Travel Pod Set comes with a bottle pod, a diapers & wipes pod(with change pad) and a pacifier pod in coordinating colours. Each one is made of wipe n’ go fabrics and they’re also machine washable – a must for any baby item. Don’t use bottles? Me neither. The bottle pod fits an adult water bottle perfectly, or a sippy cup of the tall n’ slim variety. The pacifier pod is great for keeping the paci handy and clean, but if your kid is like mine and opposed to sucking on anything not made of mommy’s warm skin, it also fits…an iPod! Perhaps my favourite feature, which is on all three pods, is the “attach anywhere” handles. Just need a paci? Hang it from your purse. Going on a walk? Hang the pods you need from the stroller. Convenient. Cute. And did I mention convenient?

They come in a set of six interlocking “blocks” which safely and securely lift the head of your baby’s crib or toddler’s bed up to 10 cm allowing them (and you!) to get some much needed sleep when they’re suffering from congestion, ear infection or gastric reflux. They fit most legs up to 7 cm diameter. Boy, do I ever wish I had these when our son had his first cold and we were struggling to find books of the same size at 2 am to elevate his mattress.
I’m not sure if cribs in Sweden are on wheels like most of ours are (the picture at left makes me think not), but I found the Spacebabies blocks to be quite secure, even on wheels, as long as the crib is not shaken. However, with a toddler standing and rocking the crib, the legs did topple off the blocks. I suppose you could remove the wheels, but instead we placed the blocks under the mattress on top of the mattress support. One or two blocks in increments under the head of the worked wonderfully, even for my rambunctious little guy. They were very stable and left no holes around the mattress and there was no sagging – we had one in each top corner and one in the centre. Whether used under the legs with newborns or under the mattress with older crib sleepers, 
Our son was swaddled to sleep for longer than many babies. As a sling worn baby, he was comforted by closeness, but sometimes it was necessary to put him down. For bedtime, there are some wonderful blankets on the market. For daytime, however, you’ve got to have a little style.

For little girls, I love her Elizabeth collection. This collection is pink flannel, satin and tulle and the skirt of the basket resembles a ballerina tutu. What little girl wouldn’t love to sleep in this? Personally, I don’t know if I’d pass this on to friends once my own children were done with it. I’d keep it for special dolls to sleep in and, one day, my grandchildren and great grandchildren. It’s just that beautiful.
