Want to see if your baby can read too?
Over two years ago (stone age in the blog world) we reviewed the Your Baby Can Read early literacy system.
We enjoyed it then, and my children are still enjoying it now. (Disclosure: Me? I find it highly annoying after over two years, but I have very little input into what the daily dvd is.)
We probably get more emails about this program than any other review we’ve done in well over three years.
Wanna try it?
Win it! Your Baby Can Read is giving one of our fab readers a complete YBCR system valued at $200! To enter, just leave a comment on this post before noon mst on June 22, 2009.

I really think this reading system is great!
June 15th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I personally think that the Your Baby Can Read system will work. I know my niece got alot of attention from her parents, grandparents, and aunts when she was a baby. When she went to preschool at 3 she was able to read many of their little books and such. She’s now an adult with a very good job in the medical field. Though she didn’t learn to read from this system, phonic flash cards were used, as well as adults talking to her in adult language and pointing to words in magazines and newspapers saying the words to her and what they meant. Children’s books were constantly checked out of the library and she had books read to her daily from the time of her birth until school age.
I’d really like to win this system for my niece and her baby to be.

June 18th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
This sounds like a great way to begin whole language instruction at the earliest possible age! I’ve reviewed some of the comments from those who dislike television as educational or who believe that this strategy undermines the phonetic approach to learning…but hands down – if my toddler can read BEFORE going to kindergarten, then he will be steps ahead of many in his class. After 13 years in education, I can strongly say that reading ability affects EVERYTHING, and the old saying “start behind, stay behind” should have every parent seeking the best possible instructional materials for their young children. I am excited to have a possible chance to win this for my 3-year-old. My teenagers would be sooo jealous

All I did with my first daughter (she’s 14 now) was read books to her and by the time she was 3 she was reading on her own. She was “bored” in Kindergarten so they bumped her to first grade. I was mostly worried she wouldn’t fit in because she was younger, but she fit right in. Now I’m on my last baby and this is something I would like to try, but I do not think a baby SO young needs to read, remember to give them time just to be crazy playful babies!
June 21st, 2009 at 2:13 am

June 22nd, 2009 at 9:37 am
What an interesting prize… for that matter, what an interesting system. Everything that they say on their website makes sense, but I still just have a very hard time believing that something like this can work on children so young. Even after reading thru your review I still just can’t believe that a 10 month old can comprehend anything. Sure, I can point to our cat and say ‘cat’ a million times a day and the baby might emulate the sounds and gesture as best as a 10 month old can, but I would be hard pressed to call it anything but mimickry. Now, that doesn’t mean that I’m not willing to try it and see what happens. I wish it weren’t television based though, as I feel that limiting backlit/projection images is best for a baby’s delicate eyes, but everyone tells me that I’m paranoid. Now then, it would be absolutely fantastic if it could actually work though, and even if it provides limited assistance toward the eventual goal of reading and comprehending then it is definately a valuable tool which any parent would be wise to acquire… which is why I would love to try it out to see! Thanks so much for the opportunity to win one of these most enigmatic packages.
