Save Money & Save Energy This Winter
Thanks to the Home Depot, we’ve been warming up our home this season while cooling down our heating bills, and you can too. With their help, we upgraded the energy efficiency of our home by installing CFL light bulbs throughout the house, replaced a ton of caulk and weather stripping, replaced our furnace filter, installed dimmer switches throughout the house and installed a new programmable thermostat. We could have done more if we were made of time and money but we feel great having done what we did.
The installs were, for the most part, self explanatory, but when they weren’t (or when we were just afraid of electrocuting ourselves or burning our house down) Home Depot was there for us. They offered us access to master tradespeople, but with the quality of help available online we didn’t end up needing them. We just stocked up on energy saving light bulbs. ( n:vision 14 Watt Soft White Compact Fluorescent Bulb (CFL), 4 Pack ) Bought them and some other winterizing stuff at Home Depot (my husband’s favorite store)
I believe the light bulbs do save energy. They claim they last longer but I haven’t found that they do.

With our old house to save money we gradually replaced windows over 3 years. Remember to put insulation where the old weights were. We saved a lot of money in heating by doing that. I would love to win the gift card to do more work. Thanks

Thanks for this information. I’ve been in the process of changing my bulbs in the house to CFL bulbs and I’ve installed additional ceiling fans to my house but I appreciate the video from Home Depot that tells me more pointers on updating my windows and doors and using the dimmer lights. As I watch the ice storm outside my window in the Colorado mountains, I can appreciate your efforts on saving energy and preserving warmth in your home. I was interested to read that you have installed a programmable thermostat, something that I hope to do, too. My latest improvement is strofoam insulation sheets that fit behind the outside wall electric outlets and light switches – recommended to me by a Home Depot salesman who was assisting me in selecting window insulation.
As a widowed mother of three, Home Depot has been incredible in helping me maintain my home. From their classes as well as the always helpful salespeople, I have learned how to install tile, build an outdoor pond, install a new faucet, and they even walked me through a horrible drain problem. In the spirit of being opinionated, why would anyone want to shop at Home Depot when there are Lowes, OSH, and other stores that offer better service, a better selection of higher quality goods, equally competitive prices, and make far better neighbors? That being said, I would gladly spend $100 at Home Depot IF I were to win this contest.

My daughter and her husband are in a home remodeling project run amok — every time they turn around, there’s something wrong somewhere that needs to be fixed right away. Hi again. I hope your holidays are proving to be as unstressful – as possible. Before my pregnancy, I had just finished Massage Therapy school (now for my national exam) so I have a holiday destresser tip:
Relax with a massage but don’t stress out from the cost – go to a student clinic of an accredited school – with a good reputation – and its between 20-30 dollars usually and the students will have just learned the body from the cellular level up – its pretty intensive training. Also makes a great gift.
If Massage isn’t your thing – try an ayurveydic school and get your hair done – and maybe even coloured with all natural plant extracts – no ammonia!

Home Depot has become our home away from home! My husband and I have committed to making our home more energy efficient and little by little we are working on do it yourself projects to better insulate our home so we do not lose precious heat during our harsh winter months. All of this work does that money, so we are working on the projects as our money permits. We truly would love to have an extra $100 to spend at our second home, Home Depot to give us another jump start of finishing at least one of our window insulating projects that is halfway done! Lets just say five boys, you get the picture! I’m repairing things in our home daily. The latest disaster is one of my kids butts, some how went through the bedroom wall and got stuck. What I would give to have one of everything @ Home depot. lol I am looking forward to getting my game room redone. Right now I have horrendous orange couches, a massively stained -used-to-be-white rug, yellow frayed curtains and book shelves held up using VHS tapes… UGH!! And my celing is the old-school wallpaper pasted type… well whats left of the paper anyways. And very old cracked -dare-I say-it paneling… Yuck Yuck Yuck… a $100. HD card would surely light a fire under my butt to get it in better shape.
