Two Flowers by Danielle Sansone
Two Flowers, the debut CD from Danielle Sansone, started out as a simple recording of a few songs she had written for her two children and turned into what producer Will Robertson calls a “14-track ode to childhood wonder.” A totally indie mix of bluegrass and symphonic sounds characterize the strange but welcome combination of sweet vocals, fiddle, banjo, cello & violin on this CD.
Many of the songs are directly or indirectly about sleep, proving that a mother did, indeed, write them. Too Much Coffee (for mama today…), (Sleep) Like an Angel, Sleep so Sweetly, The Sleepy Mile…and the list goes on. Just typing those titles brings me back to the sweet days of rocking babies that didn’t rip my glasses off and pull my hair when they should be sleeping.
Honestly, the first time I listened to Two Flowers, I thought it was too ‘country’ for me. However, as my son requested “More Two-Fowers” it grew on me and is now a fave we like to sing along to (in our “inside voices”) before nap time. It’s not really country – it’s just a little more rural than suburban.
