Couldn’t We All Use This Lesson?
A very wise teacher, Meri Zeiff, is the brains and the brawn behind verimeri.com, a children’s clothing company created by kids for kids. As a first grade teacher in Hollywood, California, Meri asked the children on the playground during recess each day “If you could have anything you want written on a shirt, what would it say?” A list of over 100 ideas was created and after a series of votes and kid think-tanks, verymeri was born.
There are currently 13 kid-designs available in the shop and some cool matching tattoos too!
My son received a Be Buddies Not Bullies tee (pictured) from verimeri and, though he’s young, it was a great starting off point for our first discussion of bullying. I love that he’s making such an important statement right on his chest and I hope that if we can get more kids wearing tees like this they’ll be a gentle reminder for the other kids on the playground (and their parents) to be a little nicer to each other. Hey, it’s gotta be better than a skull. And him calling his friends “Buddy” as he takes their hand in emulation of the image on his shirt is the cutest thing I’ve seen all month.
Your child’s own school can work with verimeri as a fundraiser – if you’re on the PTA, check it out!
