Naturally, Protect-A-Bub Provides Sun Protection…Naturally.
Since having children I, like many parents, have drastically reduced my usage of chemicals of all kinds. For me, that includes sunscreen. I do use it on every family member but I prefer to limit the amount of skin it’s on whenever I can and bathe or shower it off as soon as possible once we’re out of the sun’s rays.
Unprotected exposure to the sun in the first 15 years of life more than doubles the chances of getting skin cancer as an adult. Thanks to some fantastic products we’ve been using from Protect-A-Bub, we’ve been able to protect our little people from the risks of sun exposure a lot more naturally this year.
My two year old is perpetually outside (screaming wildly in his “outside boice,” but that’s beside the point) and is often sporting his UPF 50+ swim suit and hat. At less than $30, the Protect-A-Bub suits are comfortable and breathable and have the highest rating available for sun protection products. Available in sizes from 5 months to 5T and in a wide variety of one and two colour designs, there’s something there for everyone. The coordinating hat isn’t just a fashion statement. It looks adorable with the suit and alone and protects the vulnerable skin of the scalp to the same high degree that the suit does.
One often neglected area of little (and big) bodies are the lips. Our usual facial sunscreen applications do nothing for our vulnerable lip skin and non-SPF lip-stuff simply absorbs the sun and makes the problem worse. Now that my son is sporting his SPF 15 Lip Moisturizer we are a little more lenient about the time spent playing with the sun. It comes in three flavours and is only $2.25.
In addition to our enthusiastic un-sun-kissed two year old we’ve also got an amazing little five month old who is never left behind on our outdoor adventures. Being too young to wear any sunscreen at all, she can usually be found under one of the Protect-A-Bub sunshades. We absolutely love the inexpensive compact shade, but rarely use it on our stroller. (Though when we have, it works great as an extension of the canopy that’s already there.) We use the convenient ties to attach it to her bouncy chair on our deck and in our back yard every day. The shade rests on the toy bar and the ties keep it taut - it’s perfect and allows her to join us outside even in the hottest hours of the day.
With the increased awareness of both skin cancer and chemical exposure on the part of (we hope) all parents nowadays, we’re sure that Protect-A-Bub will be a welcome and awesome resource for parents who, you know, want to leave the house this summer.
Win it! Protect-A-Bub is giving away a compact stroller sunshade just like the one we love so much. To enter, visit the Protect-A-Bub site and browse their great selection. Come back and leave a comment on this post mentioning a product you think would be useful in your life before noon MST on July 1/08.
Additional entries available - up to four per person. See contest entry information and rules.
CONTEST CLOSED & WINNER EMAILED - Congrats Lori!

A sunburnt toddler absolutely terrifies me so this is right up my alley! i am always looking for ways to keep hiim out of the beating hot sun but he is just to into to everything - here lies the solution! As well, i love the idea of the car seat shade - no sun in the eyes means no squawking in the back seat - i believe i would leave this one on all year round!
June 24th, 2008 at 6:33 am
All the products would come in handy here in South Carolina, but we’d definitely use the hat and swimsuit a lot!

I was actually just looking for a better shade for my umbrella stroller, mine is so small, the sun still gets him from both sides of the little shade!

The wind and rain cover is cool
June 24th, 2008 at 8:23 am
I’d have to go with the sunshade on this one. I’m always taking my girls out for walks and having to slather on sunscreen. It takes them longer to get ready then go on walks. Their canopy’s aren’t quite big enough so this would be perfect.
June 24th, 2008 at 8:31 am
We have history of skin cancer in the family and so I am ultra careful with our kids and the sun. On a recent trip to Australia, I was amazed at how sun-aware their culture has become due to a huge public service campaign by the government. It seems like all the kids down under wear swim shirts. I had a hard time finding them upon our return, so it’s great to see then available state-side. The lip balm and the stroller sun shade also seem like great products.

With twin toddlers and a recurring case of cabin fever, I am always getting them out for a walk. Unfortunately, I live in a city that gets WAY too much wind. The twin stroller & jogger wind and rain cover would make getting out so much easier. I love the see through window and the fact that it is made for my super big twin jogger.

The classic sunshade is the best product that i have seen on their website. Its so practical and something that you dont come across that often. A very great idea that will help so many moms now!
June 24th, 2008 at 11:47 am
My friend has twin girls that have inherited her olive skin. Living in Florida makes them get tan really fast and it bugs the crap out of her. I think she needs to know about their UPF 50+ long sleeve swim shirts! She’s been looking but can never find anything long sleeve.
I’ve been meaning to get a sun shade for my stroller … I see them at parks once in a while and always think “I need that” and then promptly forget.
Thanks for the giveaway!

UPF 50+ Protective Swimwear! It’s blazing hot and we have access to a community pool…but my baby’s Old Navy halter swimsuit just doesn’t provide adequate sun protection! (And let’s face it, who really wants their 8 month old wearing a halter swimsuit???)

I would love the Protect-a-Bub SPF 15 Lip Moisturizer for my son - he’s obsessed with chapstick!

I am all about the full body swimsuit with SPF in the material. My four year old has been wearing one every year. We picked up a speedo one in his second summer, loved it so much we bought two more in the sizes up!
I also, try and keep as many body parts covered but I always thought about it as less body parts that I have to fight to get sunscreen on!

What a fabulous idea a sunshade that protects completely. Being a first time Grannie and grandaughter living 1400 miles away in NM where the sun shines all the time, this is one item that would work so much better than a blanket thrown over a stroller. I would love to use this next time we go visiting. Thank you
June 25th, 2008 at 5:17 am
